Atmos Is Acting Like Wall Street

When a company delivers a service, like electricity or natural gas, they deserve to be rewarded for giving the public a vital need and creating jobs. When one of those companies endangers thousands by neglecting to replace dangerous and dilapidated pipelines, they need to fix the problem and apologize. They don’t need to compound the problem with the sort of corporate greed we’ve seen on Wall Street. Continue reading »

Business leaders get exclusive look at Sunnyvale’s first hospital

More than 200 business and community leaders attended the official open house May 20 of Texas Regional Medical Center at Sunnyvale. The $68 million hospital, owned by local physicians primarily, is the first for Dallas County’s Town of Sunnyvale.

“We’ve been quietly providing residents of Sunnyvale, Mesquite, Rockwall and the surrounding areas quality care since late September, but the open house was an opportunity to show Sunnyvale’s business and community leaders just what we have to offer,” said Terry J. Fontenot, TRMC-Sunnyvale’s CEO. “The hospital, including The Women’s Center and even newer The Heart & Vascular Center, provides quality care to patients in eastern Dallas County, Rockwall County, Kaufman County and Hunt County.”

TRMC-Sunnyvale, which is jointly owned by local physicians and Richardson-based Rockwall Hospitals, Inc., treated its first patient Sept. 28 and increased its service offerings in the last few months. The 70-bed hospital is near capacity already, Fontenot said.

State Rep. Robert Miklos, D-Mesquite, said physician-owned hospitals have tremendous benefits to their communities, and TRMC-Sunnyvale’s service area includes more than 500,000 people.

Dr. Edward Panousieris, resident of Sunnyvale and one of TRMC-Sunnyvale’s owners, said area physicians approached many hospital groups to build a hospital in Sunnyvale, but were unsuccessful until working with Rockwall Hospitals. He said physicians were involved in every aspect of the hospital’s design, equipment choices and personnel picks.

“This hospital was built at our direction, but it was built for you,” said Panousieris, TRMC-Sunnyvale’s chief of staff. “It was a true labor of love.”

Fellow event attendees, including representatives from State Rep. Robert Deuell, R-Greenville, office and U.S. Rep. Jeb Hensarling’s, R-Texas, offices; members of Sunnyvale Chamber of Commerce, Rockwall Area Chamber of Commerce, Forney Area Chamber of Commerce, Terrell Chamber of Commerce Convention & Visitors Bureau and Kaufman Chamber of Commerce; and several cities’ officials were treated to a virtual tour of the hospital, which described TRMC-Sunnyvale’s offerings, including six surgical suites, an emergency room and The Women’s Center with eight labor, delivery and recovery rooms. The virtual tour video is available for viewing at www.TexasRegionalMedicalCenter.com or on YouTube by searching the site for TRMC Open House.mov.

TRMC-Sunnyvale has staff of more than 300. More than 210 physicians have medical staff privileges at the hospital, Fontenot said.

To show the town’s appreciation, Mayor David Byrd presented Fontenot with a key to Sunnyvale.
